On May 1, 2010, the LPCA formally launched the "Land Park Volunteer Corps," a new volunteer organization committed to keeping William Land Park beautiful. The neighborhood's response to this initiative has been overwhelmingly positive and consequently, on May 26, the LPCA "spun off" the "Corps" as an independent nonprofit entity dedicated to preserving the beauty of the park, led by Craig Powell. Corps tasks include new plantings, planter maintenance, pond clean-up, weeding and the like.
The Corps meets in the park on the first Saturday of every non-winter month of the year, starting at 8:00 a.m., with complimentary coffee, juices and baked products available. Corps members hear brief gardening tips from master gardeners and socialize with neighbors and friends before being dispatched to their work assignments in the park for that day. Volunteers gather in the picnic grounds that are directly behind Fairytale Town.
