Each year, Land Park Community Association volunteers work on many issues that affect our neighborhood. Issues change annually based upon proposals by the city, county, state or other governmental entities and the private sector. LPCA also organizes and sponsors special events for Land Park residents and neighborhood issues that residents may bring to our attention. Below are issues and projects LPCA worked on in 2006 and 2007:
· Obtained improvements to building remodels within our commercial corridors: Oto's Market and McDonald's (Freeport Blvd); Joe Marty's Restaurant, and C & B Liquor (Broadway).
· Continue to work on these proposed projects: 401 Broadway, 1601 Broadway, 1901 Broadway and a proposed Starbuck's kiosk (21st & Broadway).
· Working to ensure that city staff implements Planning Commission decisions when overseeing the construction of projects.
· Promoting transportation and location alternatives for the West Sacramento Bridge proposal, being promoted by both the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento.
· Provided comments on the proposed Setzer Wood Products development (34-acre development south of 3rd and Broadway), which ensures continuity with nearby residential areas and minimizes impacts.
· Temporarily eliminated the Caltrans US Highway 50 diamond lane proposed as a 2nd level between Interstate 5 and Highway 99 (W/X Segment). This would have dropped more traffic into our neighborhood. We continue to oppose Highway 50 diamond lanes, which bring more traffic to Land Park surface streets.
· Participate on the Tower District Alliance to revitalize Tower District.
· Continue to monitor Westfield Downtown Plaza's remodel proposal.
· Identified and worked on cell tower installations within Land Park, avoiding residential areas.
· Working with neighbors to minimize impacts from McClachy High School stadium expansion proposal.
· Monitoring impacts from Sac City College Parking Garage.
· Funded new landscaping in William Land Park along Freeport and Sutterville Blvds and at the wading pool.
· Inform over 6,000 residences about local issues through our quarterly Land Park Community Association newsletter.
· Held the 8th Annual Taste of Land Park -- the best wine and food "block party" in Sacramento.
· Sponsored the 12th Annual Holiday Egg Hunt for over 400 children.
· Negotiated an entertainment permit for Riverside Clubhouse Restaurant (Riverside @ Beverly) that included parking protection for adjacent neighbors.
· Finalized traffic calming proposal for Valley Way (between Land Park & Riverside).
· Convinced Cal Middle School to eliminate parking lot proposal on corner of Land Park Drive and Vallejo Way.
· Eliminated the City's standard-design traffic light along Vallejo and Freeport Blvds -- and obtained "historic design" traffic lights, setting a standard for historic older neighborhoods like Land Park.
